CARD Act – what it means to you

The CARD Act ensures additional safe guards for everyone,  It also ensures that your credit card statement is easier to read and allows you do see instantly that only paying the minimum balance will result in paying huge amounts of interest and will take years to pay off your balances.  These are all great safety measures for consumers, but make sure to read the small print on your card statement.  Many national companies are raising rates and adding annual fees to cover the additional costs asssociated with complying with the CARD Act.  This article gives you an overview of what the CARD Act will provide to you!

Reprocussions of the CARD Act

The Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure (CARD) Act goes into effect February 22. It brings credit reform, but also new fees, rates, and payments. MSN Money outlined the main changes you can expect come February 22:

  1. Credit card companies will punish you for account inactivity.
  2. Companies will begin looking beyond your credit score to credit your credit profiles.
  3. They will now target parents of college students, instead of college students.
  4. A resurgence of secured credit cards.
  5. Introduction of debit card fees.
